What is Holi?

Holi is celebrated at the end of winter and that marks arrival if spring.  For the celebration of two days makes lots of fun and thanks giving each other. On the last day of full moon (purnima) evening festival begins. The first day evening celebration known as HolikaDahan, Dolpurnima or ChotiHoli and next day celebration known as Dhulati, Phagwah, Dhulandi or basantutasav.

Why holi celebrated?

Prime theme of holi is the festival of good victory over  evil.  A story of brave boy Prahalad who did worship of lord Vishnu. Father of prahalad , Hiranyakshipu was a very cruel king and have a magical power.  He wants to ruling over earth, heaven and underworld by defeating Vishnu. Because his son doing worship of Lord Vishnu he tred many things to kill  him but all tiems Lord Vishnu save him!!! Hiranyakshipu decide to kill his son with the help of his sister Holika.  Holika have power of immune to fire. When a prey was lit Holika sit on it with Prahalad. But prahalad emerged out of the fire unscathed other hand holika burned to ashes (Hiranyakshipu tooo !!! killed by Lord Vishnu).

Tradition

Over the years , the story of Holika is re-enacted. The meaning of the festival has undergone significant over centuries. Holi is performed by everyone but it’s very special for new born and newly married couple.

Ritual for new born:

Sugar made Traditional Necklace

Mother or families do worship for their new born baby. On the day of Holika Dahan family go at where prey situated with their baby. Doing worship of Lord Vishnu for baby’s good health (save their baby like Prahalad form all evil eyes ). For the celebration baby have to wear special made necklace ( havado:a sugar necklace) recently many mommies made necklace from chocolates or dried fruits also!!  Doing kumkum tilak on baby forehead and put necklace on baby neck. Then after put some sweets or Fagava(popcorn) or Dates or Jaggery (gul) or camphor or Nariyal (dried coconut) on fire. Take round over the Holika (5-7 times). Some mother also worn kajal on baby eyes. According to thought baby get good sight because of this tradition.

for the next of color always use hygiene or natural color for play. Tilak Holi is the best option for the baby so they didn't get any harm. also apply baby lotion and oil to baby so more water not makes baby skin and hair dry. 

  

Rituals for new married couple:

Newly married couple reach at the place of Holika dahan in the traditional dress with the trey of diya, kumkum, nariyal,pani ,sweets, fagava (popcorn) , dates, camphor and jaggery(gol).  Do worship with light up diya and did kumkum tilak over place. Put all sweets, fagava (popcorn) , dates and jaggery(gol) on prey. Place round together(in couple) with the pulling water overside.

At the different places celebration done in different way. Next day of Holika Dahan people play Holi with colors. In-laws take a charge to make it more joyfull !!!
